Roman Bronfman is a Member of Knesset and Head of the Democratic Choice Faction. He is also a member of the Meretz-Yahad. Bronfman is one of the most outspoken politicians in Israel. Before he immigrated to Israel in 1980 from the Ukraine, he was one of the leaders of the Soviet Refusnik movement. Bronfman was the Chief Editor of the Russian language newspaper Vremya. Since 1996 he has been a Knesset member, serving in the 14th, 15th and 16th Knesset sessions. During the 15th Knesset, Bronfman left the Yisrael B'Aliyah party, due to disagreements on issues of separation of religion and state and on security issues. Together with MK Alexander Tsinker, he formed the Democratic Choice Party. Bronfman was one of the first politicians to advocate the idea of unilateral separation between Israel and the Palestinians.
